Today was a very busy day for us! Josh has his weekly Bleo treatment this morning at 9am. Once we got into the office we noticed that Josh had hair all over his shirt. Yep, his hair started falling out bad today! Dr. Schertz was concerned about Josh’s blood counts, they are down some. He was worried about the surgery on Monday and the increased risk of infection. After some very tense moments on our part while he was calling the surgeon to see if we still had to go ahead with the surgery it was decided that his counts were just above the borderline so we will still have surgery on Monday–thank goodness! Today at chemo we met the nicest family. The patient is about 45ish woman with breast cancer that was fairly advanced. Well, today was her last treatment. She is going to get a double mastectomy next followed by radiation. Her whole family was so nice, they brought Josh a doughnut and talked to us almost the whole time. While a lot of people say or think they know how we feel in reality they have no idea. The family we met today could relate to us, she knows how Josh feels and I know how her husband feels. She was very positive, that was good for Josh.
Once the bleo was done we went to Josh’s work to see his “family” as he calls them. The support from his work staff has been amazing.
After we left there we went to the barber to get his head shaved. He wanted me to do it but honestly, I was/am depressed about it and I didn’t really want to. I don’t know why but his hair falling out is very depressing to me. He is cute with no hair but its still sad. Maybe it makes it more real. I don’t know..I’ve always thought the little old ladys we get in the ER with no hair thanks to chemo are always the cutest and Josh is cute too but it is still depressing.
All in all today was a very good day until I left for work. Josh has been sick this afternoon but we will have our moments for that.
