Surgery followed by radiation.
This morning first thing I called Dr. Schertz at the cancer center and his secretary told me he was still on vacation until next Monday. So I called Indiana University and was told that Dr. Williams is on medical leave…indefinitely! So I left a message for Dr. Hahn to call me. Dr. Buck came in and discussed the cyberknife with us. Dr. Hahns resident called back later and discussed some options with me which included surgery, radiation, or a combination of both. So I got Dr. Hahn to call Dr. Buck and Dr. Harron and have a conference to discuss the best route of care. Dr. Hahn said basically any of the three options were good and left the decision up to us. He did tell Dr. Buck that he would personally lean more towards surgery followed by radiation. We have decided to proceed with surgery followed by radiation because this will decrease Joshs risk of seizure tremendously as soon as the tumor is out. Whereas, if we do the cyberknife it is only 3 radiation treatments it could take weeks to shrink the tumor and while it is shrinking it will create more swelling making it likely for Josh to have another seizure. Dr Harron wanted to do surgery next Tuesday however I don’t feel safe taking Josh home until then so he has agreed to move it up to either this Thursday or Friday. Josh is doing really well except for his shoulder pain. He did have an MRI of it today however the report still is not back. He is in really good spirits.
Since Josh had the seizure he will be unable to drive for about 6 months as long as he does not have anymore seizures. He will have to go to about 4 weeks of radiation treatments which will be everyday so it should be interested getting him back and forth to his appointments since I am starting school again next week and I have promised him I won’t quit again this semester because of his health but somehow we will manage.
