Josh had a CT done on Saturday to rule out a bowel obstruction. To save his body and time they went ahead and scaned his chest, abdomen, and pelvis for the bowel obstruction and to see if the cancer was gone. There was no bowel obstruction, they don’t know what is making his stomach hurt or what is making him sick still. His lung is full of fluid again. They want him to see a cardiothoracic surgeon about his lung. There is a possibilty that his spleen has punctured his diaphragm because it is so large. If thats the case then the fluid in his lung would be blood from the spleen and they would have to remove the spleen.
The ct also revealed that the cancer is not gone. The only mass that is completely gone is one on his left lung. There are no new tumors. The old tumors have all decreased in size….decreased about 50%. This was hard news for us to swallow. As much as we have been through since May and its only half way done. Dr. Schertz and Dr. Keeley aren’t quite sure what to do next. So they, of course, referred him to the cardiothoracic surgeon about the spleen/lung issue. Dr. Schertz also is calling Dr. Einhorn at Indiana University on Tuesday. It is very possible that we would have to go there to consult with him on what to do next. Dr. Einhorn is the doctor that lead the medical team to save Lance Armstrong’s life so we are optimistic; however, its scary all the same. We will go meet with Dr. Schertz again on Friday to discuss our options. If that means going to Indiana we will have to figure out how to get there either drive or fly. Its about a 9 hour drive and I’m not sure if Josh can handle that long of a ride but plane tickets at the last minute will cost an arm and a leg.
Since coming home last night Josh has been resting comfortably
