Surgery yesterday went well. We got to RMH at 7am and immediately talked to the surgeon who said that it would be later in the morning before they were ready for Josh because someone else was going first. About 15 minutes later the anesthesiologist came and got Josh, they were ready for him. I don’t know what happened to the person in front of Josh. Josh was in surgery at 8:30, he got out of surgery and into the recovery room around 11. He is on a pain pump and has a chest tube in. During the surgery they drained about a liter of fluid and since then about 400 mL has drained. The anesthesia has made Josh sick but hopefully its wore off enough for him to be able to eat something today. The chest tube should stay in 3-4 days. Honestly, I think its draining way less today than it has been…I can already see a huge difference. During the surgery they put mannitol powder in his left lung which sortof asks like glue to keep the lung expanded so it doesn’t collapse or collect more fluid.
Josh can already feel a difference in his comfort level as well as his breathing!
I’ve been talking with Dr. Schertz and his secretary to arrange our trip to Indiana. We will be going to Indiana next week. Our appointment is next Thursday at 10am. Hopefully we will be flying out next Wednesday. We will be meeting with Dr. Einhorn and Dr. Williams. I think I’ve got the airplane tickets taken care of but I’m still working on a rental car and hotel.
