Here we go again….

Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever

Last night Josh called me when he got off at 5pm and said that in the past few minutes he has because uncoordinated again, like last time before the brain tumor was discovered.  I called and paged Dt. Harron (the brain surgeon) because Dr. Schertz is on vacation.  Dr. Harron didn’t call back within a few minutes so I met Josh at Franklin Memorial around 5:45 he was registered and had saw Dr. Abel.  About 7pm he started having a seizure that they couldn’t get him to calm down from so at 7:30 he was intubated and put on a ventilator.  They did a CT of his head which showed another tumor.  The decision was made to send him to Roanoke once a bed was available in Neuro-trauma ICU so at 11pm Lifeguard10 touched down at Franklin Memorial and by 11:10 he was gone.  He arrived at Roanoke Memorial at 11:20 and I arrived at 11:30.  He was kept sedated throughout the night.  This morning they extubated him and got him off the vent.  He is alert…very drowsy which is because of the seizure and all of the meds they gave him last night.  He has slept comfortably almost all day.  They did an MRI around lunchtime which showed only 1 tumor, in the same spot, about the same size as the last one.  Since it has only been 6 weeks since his last brain surgery this tumor is very aggressive.  Dr. Harron gave us the decision to make, more surgery or not.  We chose more surgery.  After everything we have been through since last May when this nightmare all started why would we give up now?  Its absolutely not an option now!  Early next week he will have surgery to remove the tumor and will hopefully start radiation shortly thereafter.  Indiana University did not want to do radiation after the last tumor but this time we are demanding radiation.  I will post another update tomorrow…it has been a very long 27ish hours for us and we are both exhausted.
