Gerald L. Schertz, M.D.

Dr. Schertz is a native of Bloomington, Illinois. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1967 with high honors, received his Doctor of Medicine in 1971 with Honors from the University of Chicago, and completed a residency at Yale University in 1975. Dr. Schertz continued at Yale with a fellowship in Medical Oncology completed in 1977.
Board certifications are National Board of Medical Examiners, American Board of Internal Medicine, and American Board of Medicine Specialty Examination in Medical Oncology. Dr. Schertz has a teaching appointment with the University of Virginia which he held since 1977.
He is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Virginia. Dr. has served on the Roanoke Board of the American Cancer Society from 1978-1998 and was President of the Virginia Division of the American Cancer Society for five years. He is currently Chairman of the Cancer Committee for Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Schertz was a resident of Troutville, Virginia. He has two grown children. He had a love of nature and enjoys gardening, horticulture, fishing, and raising swans.
